Star Wars

1 01 2018

Happy New Year! I’m a -little- obsessed with Star Wars right now. Just a little. Tried a slightly different approach than usual for this sketch of these force kiddos from the OT and the new one. I realize everyone has one eye that’s sized wrong and not sure how that happened and why I didn’t see it earlier! Oh well.

Project Runway

30 01 2015

Been really into Project Runway: All Stars lately. Dmitry and Sanji are my favorites. 🙂 Sanji has this awesome sense of style, and I love how Dmitry’s always so deadpan. Not sure I like Michelle (think that’s her name…with the Mohawk thing), but I’m fascinated by her Mohawk thing. I didn’t quite mean to make Isaac Mizrahi look that angry. :/ Some quick sketches during the episodes. A new eppie is on Right! Now!

Still trying to find out what approach I like best.

Rewind…and repaint?

13 04 2013

Trying to organize my room this morning and found some old paintings I didn’t even remember. Here’s an old work-in-progress from college that I have no intention of finishing. I need to re-gesso it and paint something new…

This one only made it to a first level underpainting, meaning some shape needs to be added to the edges, darkening layers in the face (which would also add more shape and thinning to the face).

Same thing on this side - needs more layers in the face. Oh, and an eye and eyebrow would be nice.

Then I have some completed paintings that I nevertheless don’t really want around. This one is so dark, maybe I would just do a black paint cast instead of white gesso and make another dark-toned painting:
It never occurred to me until now that the pool table set up might be weird. But then, this scene was never set up to be a painting.

Some marks on this from paint getting stuck to a canvas on top of it - there's a white bit above the light. My storage techniques need work.

So much to do today! Time to go running. 🙂

I’ve made a point of keeping my serious personal and general professional life out of this blog, but these are all real people I work with…except for one that was supposed to be me. Ha! Anyway no one in this picture would be happy about it. Terrible sketches. Cray cray busy this week.

White (Charcoal) Christmas

22 12 2011

Bought a really cheap ($1.50) 6″x8″ sketchbook made of this cardboard-colored recycled paper a couple months ago with the intention of using it for charcoal drawings, because the white charcoal/chalk will show up decently. Amongst a whirlwind of holiday dinners and shopping, finally found a spare 20 minutes to start it:

Vivien Leigh looking angry and dynamic

Bahhhh

Official drawing FAIL. What is it? Deer, cow creature, llama?
