Inktober

6 10 2015

As if I don’t have enough going on, I’ve apparently committed myself to doing Inktober. It was supposed to be just the bat kitty picture. Not sure how this happened. Some scans of the first few days:

(all done with an 05 Micron pen and a Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen in my 6×8″ sketch pad)

That last one I actually did first, on Friday, but I sort of hate it. It was nearly midnight and I was extremely tired. I call it “Jealousy.” Or maybe “Soon.”

Oscar Sunday

22 02 2015

Tablet practice of the weekend… first time trying form without line art first. Rough! Now since the Oscars are tonight, I’d better go make chocolate covered strawberries. 🙂

More tablet practice… you can tell I totally gave up by the time I got to the legs. 😛

Spell

11 12 2014

spell 1

More tablet practice, this time using different layers for different parts of it. I went a little crazy with pink highlights on the skin and dress, which I realize now look terrible! Oh well. I do like the sky and her curvy swan neck. It’s meant to look a little over-swiveled like her head’s being pulled slightly away by the spell…

Spring Girl – Tablet Practice

5 12 2014

Barely used my new tablet, and realized I hadn’t even touched it in 3 months. This week I finally knuckled down for some practice:

Based loosely off an old photo I took. Figured out pen pressure controls, which are so helpful!

Tablet!

5 08 2014

My tablet came in! The people that say there’s a learning curve for traditional artists are right (getting a fluid line is REALLY hard), but OMG – so cool to draw instead of mouse-clicking a thousand times! I’ve been playing around with it:

I like this one, apart from the too-small hand.

I want to learn how to do the painterly thing with it – but the smudge and blur tools are having so much lag. Below:

my first thing on the tablet - an experiment in painting using "normal" versus "multiply"

2nd drawing on tablet - attempt at linework using the tablet pen. Harder than I thought!

Horoscope Girls

6 10 2012

In between making terrariums today, I drew this little cartoon thing:

Scorpio, Sagitarrius, and Virgo

Zodiac signs are kind of fun to play with. For example, Virgo is the maiden, normally represented in a natural environment wearing a dress. So how about a hippie, animal-friendly girl? I put the little zodiaz symbol for each somewhere on them… So, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Virgo are hanging out randomly around some mountains. Libra should chronologically be there, but the idea I have for her requires an urban setting.
