The hurricane and residual work chaos threw me off my stride, but I did do this little painting I’ve been meaning to do for some time. Why a fork/knife/crumb-laden plate? Can’t explain it, just wanted to.

dessert final

For kicks I took cell photos (the above one is from the crappy cell too) of the progress.

Pics above are in natural light – ala hurricane power outage.

Dessert – yum.

New painting based on a photo I took in San Francisco. Not sure if it’s finished or not. I HATE the area of the bottom left of the building, but that’s more or less what the photo looks like, and I’m not good enough with architecture to make it up (hence another “no rulers or measuring” painting.) Here’s the full piece:

Thought I’d include some process pics:

So, I below are these crappy old paintings I had sitting around (and ref photos). The blue one is an underpainting of a potato plant. Was going to be a potato forest. Will be painted over. The purple one was an assignment for a non-art class in college (a painting of a painting) and I have always hated it. I gessoed over it, and it became the lanterns!

Here are some underpainting levels:

Then come the lanterns!

And so forth…I think I should do more traditional stuff.

Mini Peacock

Gonna be part 2 of a 4 part bird series…

Now time for dinner. Tofu parmesan risotto – good or bad idea? About to find out!

After an unreasonably long bout of procrastination:

Swan Painting

Swan Painting

I am slightly unhappy with my decision about the fish. I should have made her holding it angling up instead of hanging for composition reasons. Or used a bigger fish. But there were…reasons.

Now I can finally start the “companion” piece:

Where is the time?!

4 10 2012

Time for something colorful and different:

“The Hand” – acrylic

Can you guess what they are? The 2 on the left are done from my wrist; the 2 on the right are the top of my hand. I took the veins in existance and just extrapolated from there. Try it – fun project!

It unfortunately wasn’t until after I finished this sketch painting that I realized it looks like the boy’s hand is reaching for the dog’s butt. ūüė¶

2007 –¬†Was so¬†obsessed with this song: Kings of the Wild Frontier

Lyrics from Adam & the Ants

Dude, I hate the way I did the words on the trees though. Terrible. This was for college. If I hadn’t had the deadline,¬†I might have done better with the tree words…or¬†I just might not have done the painting at all. Pitfalls of motivation.

Lights of St. Pete

10 08 2012

So here’s where I went over the weekend:

South Pasadena

Visited the Gramps in St. Pete. And I think I promised some non-photo, actually sketchy art stuff:

Woody’s Waterfront @ South Pasadena, FL

Quick little acrylic. I love night scenes that are so loose and bright that it becomes more about the color and the light/dark rather than any defined shape or image. This place is a small bar/cafe right on the water.

…And this is what I did on the 3rd night for a bit when the Olympics were on: Glass animal statues and some vintage people. Bleck.

Later this week or early next I’m going to post about the coolest art exhibit ever from St. Pete! Pics to come…

UCF at night

Dug up this old study I did for a college class; I already know I don’t have time this week to do artsty things due to reasons I’ll talk about next week. (On that note, I promise to have some actual current sketches next week!) Anyway, I remember doing this study in a couple hours really late at night for¬†a last minute assignment. And you can totally tell. I’m pretty sure this is what my Lake Eola painting used to be. No rulers again! I love how night lighting totally transforms colors.

Just go with it…

22 06 2012

Not gonna lie РI am way too tired this week to put anything decent together. And then I lost my mind and spent tonight making the unhealthiest thing: rice krispy treats, wtf. :/ The best I can do is some random stuffs:

Quick still life from college. Man, I hated still life paintings/drawings/anything. Just look at the ladder legs and see how sick of straight lines I get.

Happy little horse

Cute (silly?) mini horse in Gainesville back in January. His smile makes me smile.

famous Memorial Park statue – J-ville

Memorial Park in Jacksonville near 5 Points about a month ago. The bird statue lurking in shadows has a hungry look I think.

Went to the Jacksonville Zoo for my b-day and caught this guy walking right over me. More zoo pics to come.

And lastly, this…because it’s been a duck-butt kind of week:

Swimming: you’re doing it wrong!
