Destroyer of Kitchens

28 03 2013

In a bought of bad decision making, I made the kitchen table my resin workstation. Seriously, you do not know how messy this stuff gets:

Complete mess. A combo of resin shavings, ink-dyed resin shavings, plant particles, who knows...

Here's the dremmel tool with sanding bit, absolutely caked with resin dust. :(

My "improvisation" just makes the mess worse. Coffee stirring stick snapped in two = resin stirrer with a second life as supporters of rounded resin charms, for when a top coat is drying.

Anyway, the floor is sort of decimated. Resin shavings get everywhere. Then eventually, you get the pretty:

Took the day off today to eat delicious French food and sleep. Then I had to do a fast self portrait because soon my long hair will be chopped off and unable to be contained in a ponytail. 😦

Swan!!!

23 03 2013

After an unreasonably long bout of procrastination:

Swan Painting

I am slightly unhappy with my decision about the fish. I should have made her holding it angling up instead of hanging for composition reasons. Or used a bigger fish. But there were…reasons.

Now I can finally start the “companion” piece:

Paper Cuts Part 2: Space Pig

14 03 2013

Well….I have a lot to learn about paper cutting.

Space Girl and Zero Gravity Pig

I think I have to use either thicker paper, bouncier tape, or some other technique to fold/curl/pop the paper to make it more 3D. For something with so many layers, it looks extremely flat.
AND I think I went a little cray-cray with the background. May rip out some of those yellow “light” things.

Can you see the layers more in this one? Hmm...maybe a tiny bit.

Anyway….
everywhere hair
My hair is long enough to be driving me crazy, getting tangled all the time. Plus looks sloppy with a suit, I think. Hair cut this weekend?

WIP – Paper Cuts?

7 03 2013

PTO is the grandest thing. I love days off that I’m paid for.
First off: a sketch:

Guess I was feeling nostalgic this week. This class had a great cast of characters. Probably one of my top 2 favorite art classes.

mystery project…?

Oh yes…and then I decided to try something new: paper cutting art experiment. Note that I have no idea how this is supposed to work. I’ve not found any how-to tips except about quilling, which I’m not using here. More on this later.

The problem with my artistic style is that it’s always divided between dark/creepy and cute/bright.

We had to pick a site in downtown Orlando where we thought our sculpture should be placed. I picked this little area of Lake Eola.
Going to check out Community First Saturdays today in downtown Jax.
