Doom Approaches

27 04 2012

With my 26th birthday mere weeks away, my mood has gone into this seriously downward spiral that is really encroaching on my art life. Actually, it probably has more to do with constant stream of macabre events in my life….but enough about me.

Oh, Pita, if only it was Cupcake Wars.

So I caved and read The Hunger Games, like everyone else. It was a fun read. My favorite in that post-utopian (or whatever it’s called) genre will prolly always be Logan’s Run. In fact, let’s just fangirl it  up here:

The Ugliest Skirt

Man, what is up with the ugly mullet-skirt trend? And all the neon clothes lately? I am not feeling 2012 fashion so much right now. I had to cut out the girl’s feet cause the sandals I drew were wonky.

Here’s a little Adventure Time post-it:

Isn’t that the sound Gunter makes?

Ice King is so mean to Gunter. I gave Gunter a little belly. So this isn’t “art stuff,” per se, but I recently had the most awesome time at the hydroponic strawberry farm off of I-95 in St. Augustine. Check them out here:

Approaching the farm…they have herbs and veggies too!

Not-So-Great Expectations

12 04 2012

Note: tempeh is *much* faster to cook than tofu. Of course, there’s always a catch (more sodium). Tonight’s 1st trial with tempeh = success. My 1st trial with cinnamon pancakes over the weekend = huge failure. 😦 Am still a domestic work in progress.

I’m re-reading books until I get un-lazy enough to get a new one. I read Great Expectations eons ago and realized my memory was kind of spotty. For those that don’t know the story, here’s my recap below(clockwise from top left):

Great Expectations: Everything You Need to Know

Click to make bigger. There is so much…wrong going on in this picture; I don’t know where to begin. I am really thinking he smuggled the file out *in* the pie…? And that can’t be right. Ms. Havisham is a total hoarder, but she can blame it on the PTSD.

A Bad Time to be Royal

4 04 2012

My obsession for this week is Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, who, like so many royals from the time period, has a dramatically tragic story.  Her mother (and sister) died from diptheria when she was a child. Then she marries, but her husband (Grand Duke Sergei Alex…?something) gets assasinated. Then she becomes this great philanthropic nun in Moscow, but eventually gets arrested and murdered by Bolsheviks. There were grenades involved. It’s pretty crazy. I was just thinking “Man, they should canonize her,” when I read that she was canonized.

She also had a really interesting look, and this pic doesn’t do it justice:

Grand Duchess “Ella”

On an unrelated note, I’m also really into this guy today:

I tried to connect the picture to the site I got it from, which has more handsome pics of this guy. Apparently he wasn’t allowed to marry someone of another race or have a romantic on-screen relationship in a movie with someone of another race because of some ridiculous laws. It’s sad – you hear about Valentino, Chaplin, but not this guy, and he was apparently just as famous.
